Hello, everyone!

I was thrilled to find this bulletin board and found so many stories that really hit home for me. I thought it would be nice to share my story and hopefully it might inspire and encourage other couples who are suffering from the many complexities (not to mention the longing) of keeping relationships across the Atlantic ocean.

Last summer, I broke off an engagement with my American boyfriend for 8 years. I am also an American. In November, I met the most wonderful, the most loving and caring man I've ever met in my life. He's a Swede and he totally swept me off my feet. We fell in love almost immediately. In December, I went to Sweden for the first time and met his parents and his entire family.

I will be flying to Amsterdam (where he now works) next week for a weekend to spend Valentine's Day with him. He'll come to New York City to see me by the end of this month. I'll see him again next month. And so forth. We made a promise that we'll try to see each other at least once a month (twice is heavenly!). We talk on the phone for hours almost everyday (sometimes more than once) and are spending a fortune. But it's all worth it!!

He will finish his work in Amsterdam by fall and will go back to Stockholm. We are now planning to have two weddings both in the States and in Sweden sometime in September. I will have to move to Sweden and learn to speak Swedish. I have to admit that I'm a little bit terrified with this move. Will I find a job in Sweden? What about the language barrier? What other legal issues should I be aware of being a US-citizen and stuff? I don't know all the answers to these questions yet. All I know is that we're so in-love with one another that we can't even wait to be together until September. So, I'm planning to move with him in Amsterdam this summer. I can't wait!! I'm one of those New Yorkers who love this city, and I will definitely miss this place. But right now, I just can't live my life without him.

Anyway, I can go on forever with this stuff... I better put a closing remark and get to my point. The point is.. there is no point. If you love someone, listen to your heart and just do it. I used to have all these hang-ups, you know, a fullfilling career, making it in the Big Apple, etc. It's really true, once Love strike you.. you'll lose all the sense in everything. Love is truly the ultimate bliss!!!
