I too can share my story of being an American woman falling hopelessly in love with a Swedish guy.
My love story happened over a year ago and if you've ever heard of love at first sight, this was it. Mattias, from Goteborg, was here Dec. '97 visiting a friend in Minnesota when we met at a New Year's party. We started talking and talked the whole night until the next morning. His vacation was nearly over by the time we met, but when he went back to Sweden we vowed to keep in touch. Our connection was great and it was no problem to keep in touch thru the phone, email and letters. It ended up that I went to Sweden for a visit, a few months later, Mattias closed down his law practice and decided to come to Minnesota to attend graduate school to get his Master of Law degree.
Needless to say, we are still happily together in Minnesota while he finishes up his master's degree. Planning the future is no easy task--an American and a Swede, but we are having a good time pondering the options.
Good luck to those of you considering pursuing the long distance love affairs. With a little perserverance and help from a little fate, it can all work out.
