Always fun when someone shares your interests, LAH!

Actually, Aquavit has a prix fixe menu in the cafe (upstairs) which is $25 or so excluding drinks, so while the formal dining room is definitely top-of-the-line, the cafe area is actually quite reasonable.

Christer's is also nice and a one or two degrees less formal, but they have more "inventions" and fewer traditional plates; however, it's all based off a Swedish foundation (typically salmon)..

When you look for Kalles, don't look for Kaviar because they can't call it Kaviar here. I guess it's a protected word, like juice. The tube will say Kalles Romkra:m instead. It looks a bit funny, but tastes the same as always!

Kalles - in a tube - is for sure available at Fairway's, and I have also seen it at Gourmet Garage (96 & Broadway) and Associated Supermarket (2nd by 49th). Associated also has a shelf with a limited selection of Scandinavian food in the ethnic section. They even had Swedish beer once (Pripps), but I guess it didn't sell too well because I haven't seen it since...

Finally, there used to be a Scandinavian, casual cafe with staples, lunch and sandwiches in the Citibank building (153E 53rd), but they closed when the building was renovating last year or so. Has anyone else seen it reappear anywhere?

Smaklig maltid!
