I'm an American considering an employment offer from a Swedish organization. If I accept, which I'm 99% certain I will, I know I will be taxed as any Swede in my salary bracket would be. I had heard, however, that Sweden was considering a special (lower) tax category for foreign "specialists" in order to attract workers sought by Swedish organizations/companies but who otherwise might be scared off by the high taxes. Does anyone know the status of this legislation, or whether or not it was even proposed? I'm curious, mainly, since the position I've been offered is appealing on its own merit and the taxes that I would pay in Sweden (38%) are not too different from those in the U.S.A., where my state, federal, and Social Security taxes combined with monthly health care premiums currently add up to about 36% anyway. If anyone has any thoughts on this subject, feel free to e-mail me at dtrouba@wef.org. Many thanks!
