Rolf Ekeus made laudable progress using UN-level
diplomacy to uncover facts about the Iraq-* arms trade.
The role of UN diplomacy could be the first casualty of
a second US-Iraq war, extending frictions in the UN
for a long way into the future - the US hardly has a
track record of even-handed dealing in the Middle East.
And the UK 's imperialism in the area extends further
back into 19th and 20th century history as well.
Multinational interests and corporate claims for
war reparations are extremely controversial for
many UN member nations. The debate shouldn't be
foreclosed by the unilateral use of force [again] .
Sweden's vision of peace should be put forward now
before all the work of early 90's is lost.
