: Is Sweden a well developed counrty in means of nuclear energy?

Sweden is for electric production to 50% depending on nuclear power and to 50% on hydroelectric.
We have 12 reactors, 600 - 1200 MW. Annual production 70 TWh. The reactors were comissioned
1970 - 85. They have a high availability about 90%.

Due to political decisions perhaps one reactor, Barsebäck, might be shut down in 1998. There is no
decision for the others.

In 1980 there was a referendum about the nuclear programme of Sweden.

Today there is a majority of the swedish people who want to have nuclear power.

Discussions about greenhouse gases seems to be important for this opinion of
the swedish population.

We also think it is better to run our reactors with a high security standard instead of importing nuclear power produced in countries like Lithuania or Ukrania using Sovjet type reactors.
